November is National Diabetes Awareness Month! During the month of November, we’ll be featuring “Faces of Diabetes”, stories of our loved ones living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Today, we introduce you to Ally:

Hi. I’m Ally and I’m almost 16 years old. I’m a sophmore in high school. I love music, dance and playing violin.
One Direction is my favorite band! I’ve danced since 2 years old at m y mom’s dance studio and played violin since 8 years old.

I was diagnosed on March 12, 2001 at just 14 months old and have struggled since then to control my diabetes. The past 2 years I hardly paid attention or cared enough to really see how badly my blood sugars were affecting me. When my A1C hit an all time high of 14.1, I decided to finally take control of my life. Over this past summer, I’ve changed my diet and exercise and keep constant track of my blood sugars and carbs. Not only has this changed my health, but also my attitude!
