Faces of Diabetes-Michelle

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month! During the month of November, we’ll be featuring “Faces of Diabetes”, stories of our loved ones living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Meet Michelle:

Michelle Laranko

Michelle was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was 12 years old at Girl Scout camp. She is now 55 years old and has never let her diabetes slow her down as she has gone on to become a registered nurse and a Certified Diabetes Educator along with being a wife and mother of 3. Anyone who knows Michele is amazed at her boundless energy in everything she does and her lifelong devotion to diabetes care and research. For decades she has completed the JDRF walk in South Jersey and many of the other walkers know her as their nurse. Many also know her for her volunteer work at diabetes camp where she was a a charge nurse for years working with diabetic campers. Michelle has always offered a caring shoulder to anyone needing her support whether it be diabetic care or just advice dealing with daily struggles. Her friends and family all recognize her devotion and would like her to k now how proud of her we are.
