Faces of Diabetes- Ella & Charlie

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month! During the month of November, we’ll be featuring “Faces of Diabetes”, stories of our loved ones living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Meet Ella & Charlie:

Charlie & Ella

Charlie was 13 months old, taking his first steps, when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. At that time, he couldn’t communicate how he felt, and on his diagnosis day, he was vomiting blood, unresponsive, and had labored breathing. He was in DKA and began slipping into a coma. We have come a long way since then!

Five years later, our daughter, Ella, was diagnosed with T1D. The challenges and worries have grown exponentially, but we meet each challenge with bravery, courage, determination, strength and a smile.

We want all people to be aware that Type 1 is a life threatening illness, not a misconceived illness where the child can’t eat a cupcake!
