Wawa has been a partner of JDRF since 1994, and in that time, it has raised significant funds to support T1D research. Wawa’s commitment is seen throughout the company. Several Wawa employees serve on JDRF chapter boards of directors and many more engage in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes and JDRF Gala in their local markets. Additionally, Wawa supports events with in-kind contributions. Wawa operates more than 600 convenience stores throughout portions of Delaware, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
From September 23 to October 20, Wawa customers had the chance to contribute $1, $3 or $5 at check-out. Wawa associates play an important role in this campaign by encouraging customers to join them in supporting JDRF’s mission.
Wawa customers were offered an additional way to support JDRF through the Coin Collection Campaign. From September 22 to October 19, canisters were placed at each register, offering consumers an opportunity to donate their spare change to support type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. In 2013, more than $344,761 was collected, taking small change and turning it into a great impact.
In 2013, combined with the donations at check-out and the coin collection, Wawa contributed more than $600,000 to JDRF.
