Walgreens has partnered with JDRF since 1992 and has raised nearly $24 million dollars in support of JDRF’s mission to find life-changing treatments and a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D). Walgreens generates more than $1 million annually for JDRF through a consumer-driven campaign in more than 8,000 locations in the United States and Puerto Rico. The company also sponsors the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes in several markets and offers an internal employee giving campaign to support JDRF.
JDRF is part of the Walgreens Way to Well Commitment™, a Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ:WAG) initiative to improve the everyday health of Americans nationwide. Through the Way to Well Commitment™, Walgreens will bring $100 million in preventive healthcare resources, health testing services, and charitable programs to its stores and thousands of communities in all 50 states over a four-year period.
In July 2013, Walgreens customers were able to donate to JDRF at checkout at any of the 8,000 Walgreens locations in the United States and Puerto Rico. JDRF is pleased to announce that this one-month campaign raised more than $4.6 million—making Walgreens JDRF’s largest corporate partner! JDRF is proud to be considered one of Walgreens’ charities through its Way to Well Program.
Walgreens collaborated with one of its vendor partners in an effort to raise additional revenue for JDRF. Throughout the month of July 2013, Russell Stover Candies and Walgreens participated in a co-commercial venture in which Walgreens donated 13 cents to JDRF from every 3.0–3.6 oz. and 10 oz. variety of Russell Stover or Whitman’s sugar-free candy products purchased, up to $35,000. The collaboration between these two JDRF national corporate partners raised additional dollars for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and also raised awareness.
During the peak of flu shot season, Walgreens is offering JDRF supporters the chance to get their flu shots and support JDRF at the same time! From September 1 through November 30, when a customer presents the JDRF/Walgreens flyer, Walgreens will donate $1 to JDRF for each flu shot administered. This is the first year of this campaign. Walgreens has committed a minimum of $25,000 to this program, with a maximum of $100,000.
Walgreens provides its employees the opportunity to support JDRF in several ways. Walgreens employees can contribute to JDRF through the company’s employee-giving campaign, volunteer on local chapter boards of directors, join company teams for the Walk to Cure Diabetes, and volunteer on fundraising committees for any number of fundraising events.
