Novo Nordisk is a global healthcare company with nearly 90 years of innovation and leadership in diabetes care. Novo Nordisk has been a strong partner of JDRF for more than 13 years. Its national partnership with JDRF began through its support of JDRF’s online social networking community, TypeOneNation. This support continues today and has been instrumental in enhancing JDRF’s social media strategy. Novo Nordisk is one of three partners supporting JDRF’s T1D Care Kit, a resource for adults newly diagnosed with T1D. The kit includes important adult-focused, life-stage resources, including Novo Nordisk’s Patient Active Learning Brochure and a coupon for a discount on NovoLog® insulin. In April 2013, JDRF announced Novo Nordisk as the National Presenting Sponsor of the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes. The company also serves as a sponsor of JDRF Children’s Congress and the Bag of Hope. Novo Nordisk is a valued research partner and a member of JDRF’s Industry Advisory Panel, a forum whose purpose is to maintain an open dialogue with JDRF’s industry partners.

To address the need for education on how patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) can pursue physical activity safely, Novo Nordisk has committed to a three-year, $5 million grant in support of a new JDRF global Outreach initiative titled “T1D Performance in Exercise and Knowledge (PEAK).” PEAK will address the statistically proven need for additional education for patients, parents, and caregivers on how to participate in physical activity while managing T1D.

T1D Care Kit Photo for WebsiteThrough the generosity of sponsors including Novo Nordisk, JDRF created the T1D Care Kit as part of an effort to ensure that all individuals newly diagnosed with T1D receive the information and support necessary to adjust to life with the disease. JDRF has found that its Bag of Hope is extremely beneficial to families of newly diagnosed children with T1D and is confident that the T1D Care Kit will be just as valuable for newly diagnosed adults. This sling-style bag includes important resources and information to educate, support, and inspire adults age 16 and older who have recently received a diagnosis with T1D. The kit is now available through local JDRF chapters and is free of charge.

 

Novo Ride PhotoA global healthcare company with over 90 years of innovation and leadership in diabetes care, Novo Nordisk and its staff have supported the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes for nearly a decade. In 2013, CEO Lars Rebien Sørensen, a Ride participant, announced that Novo Nordisk will provide a two-year $1 million commitment to the Ride—an incredible show of support for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. 2014 marks the second year of this sponsorship. Funds raised through Ride events will help advance life-changing therapies and ultimately a cure for T1D.

Children’s Congress is a three-day event that brings together approximately 150 children and teens with type 1 diabetes (T1D)  to meet face-to-face with some of the top decision-makers in the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. The delegates, ages 4 to 17, represent all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and JDRF’s international affiliates. As participants in Children’s Congress, they have a unique and empowering opportunity to help Members of Congress understand what life with T1D is like and why research to find a cure for T1D is so critical.
