Lilly Diabetes has been a global leader in diabetes care since 1923. Lilly Diabetes began supporting JDRF more than 17 years ago by sponsoring the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, Ride to Cure Diabetes, and Gala in its local Indianapolis market. Today, Lilly’s support of JDRF touches multiple programs world wide. Lilly sponsors Walk and outreach events in JDRF markets throughout the country through its national Walk co-sponsorship and TypeOneNation sponsorship. The company also is a committed sponsor of JDRF Children’s Congress, provides underwriting for JDRF’s Teen and School Advisory Toolkits, and has contributed more than $3 million directly to research since 2007.
Globally, Lilly Diabetes funds important outreach, educational, and advocacy initiatives through the support of JDRF Affiliates in the UK, Canada, and Australia.
In 2012, Lilly Diabetes began including information in the JDRF Bag of Hope to make families aware of its collaboration with Disney Publishing through a series of books such as Coco and Goofy’s Goofy Day. Lilly Diabetes is also a member of JDRF’s Industry Advisory Panel, a forum whose purpose is to maintain an open dialogue with JDRF’s industry partners.
Lilly Diabetes provides an informational postcard about the support they offer families, a bookmark as well as literature on severe hypoglycemia management in the JDRF Bag of Hope. These materials help families managing T1D enjoy life to the fullest.
Lilly Diabetes has made a commitment to funding educational resources for people living with T1D by sponsoring the existing JDRF School Advisory Toolkit and the newest addition to the JDRF Outreach Library, the JDRF Teen Toolkit. Both resources are available at no cost through JDRF.org as well as local JDRF chapters.
JDRF was proud to have Lilly Diabetes as a Presenting Sponsor for JDRF 2013 Children’s Congress. Children’s Congress is a three-day event that brings together approximately 150 children and teens with T1D to meet face-to-face with some of the top decision-makers in the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. The delegates, ages 4 to 17, represent all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and JDRF’s international affiliates. As participants in Children’s Congress, they have a unique and empowering opportunity to help Members of Congress understand what life with T1D is like and why research to find a cure for T1D is so critical. This event is made possible through the generous support of industry partners such as Lilly Diabetes.
Lilly Diabetes became the inaugural National Presenting Sponsor for the JDRF TypeOneNation Summits in 2014. These educational events invite the T1D community to talk with experts about research advances, meet with other families to exchange ideas, and participate in discussions important to them such as T1D in the school setting. There were a total of nine events nationwide in 2014 with over 4,000 attendees.
