Lilly Diabetes has been a global leader in diabetes care since 1923. Lilly Diabetes began supporting JDRF more than 15 years ago by sponsoring the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, Ride to Cure Diabetes, and Gala in its local Indianapolis market. Today, Lilly’s support of JDRF touches multiple programs nationwide. Lilly sponsors Walk and outreach events in several JDRF markets throughout the country through an annual partnership that is in its second year. The company also is a committed sponsor of JDRF Children’s Congress, provides underwriting for JDRF’s Teen and School Advisory Toolkits, and has contributed more than $3 million directly to research since 2007. In 2012, Lilly Diabetes began including information in the JDRF Bag of Hope to make families aware of its collaboration with Disney Publishing through a series of books such as Coco and Goofy’s Goofy Day. Lilly Diabetes is also a member of JDRF’s Industry Partner Advisory Panel, a forum whose purpose is to maintain an open dialogue with JDRF’s industry partners.
Lilly Diabetes has selected 11 key markets in which to sponsor both the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes and local JDRF outreach events. Through the company’s sponsorship, Lilly Diabetes has the opportunity to provide educational resources to T1D patients and their families at 13 JDRF walk sites. Walk participants are provided an array of materials and resources when they visit the Lilly Diabetes booth at the event. Employees and their families also fundraise and participate in these Walk events, raising over $70,000 for JDRF in 2012. This dedicated industry partner works with local JDRF outreach staff throughout the country to provide educational resources at chapter outreach events for people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in their community.
Lilly Diabetes provides an informational card in the JDRF Bag of Hope, showcasing the company’s collaboration with Disney Publishing and offering free resources to kids living with T1D. Resources include the book Coco and Goofy’s Goofy Day, a story about Coco the Monkey and how she manages her T1D at Goofy’s birthday party.
Lilly Diabetes has made a commitment to funding educational resources for people living with T1D by sponsoring the existing JDRF School Advisory Toolkit and the newest addition to the JDRF Outreach Library, the JDRF Teen Toolkit. Both resources are available at no cost through JDRF.org as well as local JDRF chapters.
JDRF is proud to have Lilly Diabetes as a Presenting Sponsor for JDRF 2013 Children’s Congress. Children’s Congress is a three-day event that brings together approximately 150 children and teens with T1D to meet face-to-face with some of the top decision-makers in the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. The delegates, ages 4 to 17, represent all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and JDRF’s international affiliates. As participants in Children’s Congress, they have a unique and empowering opportunity to help Members of Congress understand what life with T1D is like and why research to find a cure for T1D is so critical. This event is made possible through the generous support of industry partners such as Lilly Diabetes.
JDRF is excited to welcome Lilly Diabetes as our presenting sponsor of the JDRF T1D for a Day text challenge to run from November 1 to 30. Made possible through Lilly Diabetes’ generosity, this text message program allows participants the opportunity to step into the shoes of someone living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) for 24 hours. In just a single day, people can gain a deeper understanding of the challenges people with T1D face. Learn more about the JDRF T1D for a Day Text Challenge.
