Over the past 16 years, Hy-Vee has raised more than $15 million to help JDRF find life-changing treatments and a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications. The partnership began in 1998 and has continued to grow steadily. Hy-Vee maintains a significant presence with eight JDRF chapters through support of and participation in JDRF signature events. The company provides volunteer leadership with service on local chapter boards of directors and many other areas of support. Hy-Vee sponsors, attends, and donates auction items to local JDRF Galas and other chapter events.
Hy-Vee also raises funds in many ways to support JDRF, through a consumer-driven scanable paper sneaker campaign and many wraparound events at more than 230 stores in eight Midwestern states. JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on-site volunteer support and teams are growing in popularity with employees, and more than 100 employees and friends of Hy-Vee participate in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes.
Hy-Vee provides its customers and employees the opportunity to support T1D research by selling the iconic JDRF Paper Sneaker in more than 2,800 of its grocery stores throughout the Midwest. The campaign runs from September 1 to October 31 in all markets except for Omaha, NE, where the campaign will run June 1 through August 9, and Lincoln, NE, from July 1–September 28.
Each year, Hy-Vee selects one JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes event and invites its employees and their families to participate. More than 100 riders from the Hy-Vee community help to fundraise for JDRF and raise awareness for T1D Research. Hy-Vee selected Lake Tahoe as its Ride location for 2013.
The Hy-Vee IronKids mission is to inspire and motivate youth through the sport of triathlon to lead an active, positive, and healthy lifestyle. Hy-Vee IronKids events are held in Hy-Vee markets across the country from April through August with the National Hy-Vee IronKids event held in August in Des Moines, IA. This event supports JDRF by contributing $1 for every registration entered. Read more.
Hy-Vee employees are offered the opportunity to engage with their local JDRF chapters in many ways. Many Hy-Vee store directors serve on local JDRF boards of directors and support their employees’ volunteer participation with JDRF. The employees serve on fundraising committees, volunteer on-site at local events, and lead ongoing internal fundraising events to support JDRF.
