Throughout the month of July, Walgreens customers were able to donate $1, $2, $5, or $10 to JDRF via the pin-pad at checkout at more than 8,000 stores across the United States and Puerto Rico. This year, pin-pad donations raised a record $4.6 million, making it the most successful corporate campaign effort!
And we couldn’t have done it without our JDRF supporters. “The chapters were really engaged with the Walgreens in their areas—both nationally and locally,” says Lorraine Chapin, JDRF’s manager of national corporate development. “With the opportunity to donate through the pin-pad at checkout, it made it easy for Walgreens customers to show their support of JDRF.”
As one of our most valued corporate partners, Walgreens has always supported the JDRF goal of creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). In fact, the pin-pad campaign was a part of Walgreens’ Way to Well Commitment, an initiative to improve the everyday health of Americans nationwide. Through the Way to Well Commitment, Walgreens will bring $100 million in preventive healthcare resources, health-testing services, and charitable programs to its stores and thousands of communities in all 50 states over a four-year period.
But their support doesn’t end there—Walgreens just made it even easier for JDRF supporters to stay healthy this flu season and fund T1D research at the same time. From September 1 through October 31, Walgreens will donate $1 to JDRF for every flu shot our supporters get. It’s an easy way to reduce your risk of getting the flu and its potential complications while helping to create a world without T1D.
“The Walgreens flu shot partnership is a brand new opportunity to call more attention to type 1 diabetes,” adds Ms. Chapin, the mother of a son with T1D. “Walgreens knows it’s important for people with autoimmune diseases to protect themselves by getting a flu shot.”
We appreciate Walgreens’ continued commitment to JDRF and look forward to a successful flu shot program!
