John Chick, a defensive lineman for the Jacksonville Jaguars and a longtime supporter of JDRF, donated two tickets to Super Bowl XLVII to JDRF’s North Florida Chapter for a raffle sweepstakes to raise money for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
Chick, now 30, was diagnosed with T1D at age 14. He is one of many professional athletes living with the disease.
The raffle took place on January 28 and 29. Everyone who donated $200 or more to JDRF in that time was entered for a chance to win the tickets. At 4 p.m. on January 29, North Florida Chapter Board President Joe Romano selected the winner at random. The raffle generated $5,000 for JDRF.
