Remember and celebrate the life of Mary Tyler Moore with JDRF. #MooreForever

This summer, approximately 150 children and teenagers from throughout the United States, and several from around the world, will converge in Washington, D.C. for the JDRF 2013 Children’s Congress. Held every other summer, Children’s Congress is the largest grassroots advocacy event focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D), a disease the young delegates live with every day.

From July 8-10, these advocates—ranging in age from 4 to 17 and selected from a pool of nearly 1,500 applicants—will represent their states and countries in reminding Congress and the Administration of the critical need to find better treatments and a cure for T1D.

This year’s Children’s Congress will once again be led by JDRF International Chairman Mary Tyler Moore, and will include congressional visits by the delegates and a Senate hearing, during which Ms. Moore, select delegates, researchers, and community leaders will testify on the need for continued funding for T1D research. The event’s theme, “Promise to Remember Me,” serves as a powerful call to lawmakers to remember the burdens of living with the disease, and to commit to supporting needed research funding to reduce those burdens until a cure becomes available.
