Held at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco, CA, on March 11, 2012, this year’s Royal Ball raised more than $180,000 for JDRF.

First established in 2008 by the Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, the Royal Ball was conceived by Sara and Andy Kurtzig, after their daughter Jaime—who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at the age of 19 months—wanted to know why she couldn’t come along to her parents’ “fun dress-up parties” for JDRF. The parents loved the idea of a Gala experience the whole family could enjoy—and the Royal Ball was born.

After photos on the red carpet, the little emperors and empresses and their families enjoyed adventurous activities including a Great Wall Treasure Hunt, followed by a Forbidden Feast in the Imperial Palace Dining Room. The evening ended with dancing and a live auction.
