Second Annual Capitol Chapter Research Summit

Mark Atkinson, Ph.D., director of the Diabetes Center of Excellence at the University of Florida, Gainesville, speaks at the Second Annual Capitol Chapter Research Summit in Washington, D.C., on February 18. Dr. Atkinson’s presentation was titled “What We Still Need to Learn about Type 1 Diabetes—And how we might get there.”

Dr. Atkinson, a past recipient of the prestigious JDRF Excellence in Clinical Research Award, is also director of nPOD—Network for Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes—a JDRF collaborative research project that provides donated organ tissue from people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) to scientists around the world to better understand all phases of T1D and its impact on the pancreas and immune system.
