Land Racing for a Cure

In honor of JDRF, Team 608, a group of veteran hot rodders and drag racers, competed in the 2012 Bonneville Speed Week, a land-speed tournament held at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Racing a Lakester and a 1932 Ford Highboy Roadster in the event August 12 through 17, the team raised more than $13,000 for JDRF.

Team 608 is unusual among Bonneville racing teams in that every year since 2006, it has used the event as an opportunity to raise money for a health-related organization. Rob Gibby, a co-owner and one of the Roadster’s two drivers, has two grandchildren with type 1 diabetes. This is the second year that Team 608 has raced for JDRF.
