JDRF Youth Ambassadors took the Australian Parliament House by storm when they visited for the Australian version of Children’s Congress, known locally as Kids in the House, in March. One hundred Members of Parliament from around the country responded to the kids’ heart-wrenching stories with support for diabetes research. New government funds were committed on the spot, to match a leadership donation of $500,000 made by Dr. Susan Alberti AO HonLLD, JDRF International Patron and JDRF Australia President of the Board, for the Australian Clinical Trials Network (CTN). The Australian government’s commitment of $5 million (around US $4.8 million) toward JDRF’s comprehensive CTN plan came as a direct response to the influential personal donation made by Susan. JDRF is pursuing a further $35 million in government funding and plans to also raise $10 million from JDRF donors towards this critical investment in human clinical trials.
