Walk Volunteer Facts & Walk Day Logistics

The Austin Walk to Cure Diabetes is a family fun event that brings over 5,000 people and raises over $600,000 for diabetes research! Walk is a great volunteer opportunity for individuals, families, organizations and companies!

Time:

Please arrive promptly according to your designated start time. All volunteers will check in at the Volunteer Check- In tent located near First-Aid.  Walkers will begin to check-in at 9:00 a.m., the Walk will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Dress Code:
  • Volunteers are required to wear their Volunteer t-shirt. Please make every effort to receive this t-shirt prior to Walk day.
  • Please dress comfortably for an outdoor event.
  • Comfortable shoes and a dependable watch are a must for everyone.
  • There will not be a secure place for valuables (including purses). Please leave all valuables in the car or at home.
Volunteer Orientation:

Volunteer orientation is mandatory for registration volunteers. Upon completion of your form, you will be contacted with the date and time of your volunteer orientation.All other volunteer training will be communicated via email and on site on Walk Day. Please contact Liza Dubinsky for more information.

Food & Beverage:      

Breakfast will be provided to all Walk volunteers (please note coffee may not be available when you arrive). Lunch will not be provided for Walkers or volunteers.

Driving/Parking:

The event is on the backside of The Domain, near Burnet Road. Event parking is located in the IBM parking lot (near intersection of Burnet & Kramer). Please enter The Domain off of Braker, parking volunteers will direct you to the proper location.

Trouble Shooting:

Please note The Walk takes place rain or shine, we appreciate your volunteer commitment even if it is raining!

Every volunteer position has a lead in that particular area. If an issue or problem should arise in your area, please report to this person.
